What to Expect in Highlands Traffic Court

Analysis and commentary:  Highlands Town Court is located at 254 Main Streetin Highland Falls, NY.  The court is located in the heart of downtown Highland Falls and a short drive from the Palisades Interstate Parkway.  The court is in the building as the town's main municipal government offices.  When you arrive to court, there is ample parking on the street and during day court sessions, the meters allow for two hour limited parking.  This court is a court of limited jurisdiction and has the authority to hear traffic tickets (such as speeding tickets VTL 1180, reckless driving VTL 1212, and disobeying a traffic device VTL 1110-a), misdemeanors, landlord tenant cases, and some civil and felony cases.  The court has two part time judges and they share the duties presiding over court matters.  The court is located on the second floor.  There is limited space in court and can fill up rather quickly.  It is recommended that drivers arrive promptly on time to avoid a long delay in having their cases adjudicated.  About the town: while the town is known for its picturesque scenery, it is probably best known for being the home of West Point the United States Military Academy.
