The town of Pharsalia has a population of 593 (2010 U.S. Census), and covers just over 39 square miles in western Chenango County. First settled in 1797 and called Stonington, the town was renamed Pharsalia in 1806. The town’s government offices are in the hamlet of East Pharsalia. Hamlets of Pharsalia and North Pharsalia are also contained with town. The area is served by New York State Route 23 and County Roads 8, 10, and 42.

The clerk’s office is open every Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., except for holidays, although hours may vary during the summer months. Occasionally, the office is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
