The town of Afton is situated in southeastern Chenango County and has a population of 2,851 (2010 U.S. Census). The town, which includes a village of the same name, covers more than 46 square miles of land along the Susquehanna River, which was perfect for dairy farming in the early 1900s. The farms - now down from over 100 to less than 10 - rely on Interstate-88 for transportation, which ironically caused the decline of the dairy farms when it first went through. The area is also served by New York State Routes 7 and 41.
The Clerk’s Office is only open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact the Justice Office for additional court information.
Lawyer’s Tip Of The DayYou should bring your court notice advising you to appear in court. If you are displaced, showing the court personnel your letter may help in directing you to where you need to go and what you need to do.
