Analysis and Commentary: The Town of Hume has a population of 2,071 according to the U.S. Census (2010), and covers 38.4 square miles. The Genesee River passes through the eastern part of town. New York State Route 19 passes through town before joining Route 19A at Fillmore, New York.
Roger Mills was the first settler to arrive in 1806; he established the first mill in 1807 and the first grist mill in 1808. The Town of Hume was the first to own a museum in Allegany County.
Town Court has jurisdiction over traffic violations and vehicular matters, as well as misdemeanors, small claims, civil matters and criminal offenses.
Court is in session every Thursday at 7 p.m. except on the 2nd Thursday of each month when court begins at 5 p.m. The District Attorney night is the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5 p.m.
