The Village of Horseheads lies within the Town of Horseheads in Chemung County, New York. The village (Pop. 6,461/2010 U.S. Census) has had its name changed four times, since its founding in 1830; but kept coming back to “Horseheads”. State Routes 13, 14 and the Southern Tier Expressway (State Route 17/Interstate 86) serve the area, named for the numerous bleached horses’ skulls originally found at the town site.

The Village Court is located in the Horseheads Police Department building. Except for holidays, the court is open:

• Every Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Closed from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.)
• Court sessions are every Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

You should bring your court notice advising you to appear in court. If you are displaced, showing the court personnel your letter may help in directing you to where you need to go and what you need to do.
