Analysis and Commentary: The Town of Granger covers 32.0 square miles, and has a population of 538, according to the U.S. Census (2010). Geographically, the town lies on the northern border of Allegany County, northwest of Hornell, New York. The Genesee River forms part of its western boundary. The north town line is on the border of Livingston County.
The town was first settled in 1816 and after first being named West Grove when it was incorporated, the name was changed to Granger, to honor Francis Granger, Postmaster General at that time. Fillmore is at the junction of County Route 4 and New York State Routes 19 and 19A.
The Town Court is located at the end of Main Street. The District Attorney is scheduled to attend every 3rd Thursday at 6 p.m.
