The court office is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a closure for lunch from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, the court office is open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Court sessions are every Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. and the Assistant District Attorney attends every other Thursday for traffic and criminal trials.
Dress Code: Although there is no official dress code, it is very important that you dress neatly and always conduct yourself in a respectful manner with the court. Many judges frown upon litigants wearing shorts, open toe sandals, and other similar items.
Sign-in: Upon entering the court, it is important that you sign in with the court clerk. Failure to notifying the court clerk that you are present for your court appearance can result in your case not being called.
If Found Guilty: If you are found guilty of speeding, there are many different ways in which this conviction can affect you. This can include but is not limited to fines payable to the court, penalties payable to the Department of Motor Vehicles, insurance increases, points on your license and incarceration.
Trial: Each motorist is entitled to a trial on his or her traffic matters. In general, a traffic trial will occur on the driver’s first court appearance. The first court appearance is usually designated as a pre-trial conference.
Judges: While a plea bargain can be struck between the prosecutor and a defendant, the judge has the ultimate power to accept or reject the proposed disposition. If the court accepts the resolution, a fine will be assessed.
