Defined by the Mohawk River, the town of Rotterdam (Pop. 29,094 at the 2010 U.S. Census) borders the City of Schenectady. The NY State Thruway crosses the area, as do NY State Routes 7 and 159.
These highways cover many open stretches of road where a driver can easily lose sight of the speedometer. In such cases, many unfortunate motorists find themselves facing a hefty speeding ticket.
If you have received a speeding ticket that is returnable to Rotterdam Town Court, then give our attorneys a call today. We have continuously helped clients save money, time, points, and insurance increases. Our attorneys can be reached at 800-893-9645.
Step One: Entering Your PleaThe first and most important step after receiving your ticket is entering your plea. If you fail to enter your plea by the date provided on your ticket, your license can get suspended.
You have the option to either plead guilty or not guilty; instructions on how to enter your plea are provided on your ticket.
Entering a Not Guilty Plea: If you enter a not guilty plea, the court will send you a court notice upon receipt of your plea. The court notice will tell you when you have to go to court for your court date.
Entering a Guilty Plea: Once your not guilty plea is received by the court, you will be sent a fine notice. This fine must be paid by the date provided; failure can result in a suspension of your driver’s license.
Note: It is important to keep in mind that pleading guilty to a speeding violation is the equivalent of being convicted after trial. There are many long-term financial consequences associated with it. Not to mention, point will be added to your license as well.
Speeding Ticket Tips and TidbitsTickets: The New York State Police issue traffic tickets on a “Uniform Traffic Ticket.” This is also referred to as a “UTT.” This is the form that tells you what you are charged with and how to enter a plea.
The UTT has a lot of other useful information too such as the officer’s name, your speed, highway number, description of the vehicle, and much more.
Tidbit: There are many different police agencies with the authority to issue tickets. These agencies can include the State Police, County Police/County Sheriff, local police, and Park Police.
Points: In New York State, the penalty for a speeding ranges from 3-11 points. Please take a look at the following chart for more details
Speeding | Points |
01 to 10 mph over the limit | 3 |
11 to 20 | 4 |
21 to 30 | 6 |
31 to 40 | 8 |
More than 40 | 11 |
Important: If you reach 11 points, your license will be suspended. Please keep in mind, driving with a suspended license is a crime; if you are pulled over, the officer can arrest you and impound your car.
Fines: In terms of quantifiable dollars and cents, the average conviction to a 76/55 mph zone will usually face a fine up to about $400.00, a $300.00 fine payable to DMV, and a few hundred dollars in insurance increases.
Our lawyers fight to reach a favorable outcome for our clients. Below is a list of fines associated with some of the most frequently issued tickets in NY. Fines are subject to change without notice.
