Court Tips and InformationCourt Address:Fredonia Village Court
PO Box 31
9 Church Street
Fredonia, NY 14063
The Justice Court processes misdemeanors and traffic violations every Wednesday on the 3rd floor of the Village Hall. Contact the court for additional information.
Tip: It is always a good idea to arrive early to your court appearance rather than later. If you arrive late, there’s a chance your case will be called prior to your arrival.
Court Clerk: The court clerk assists the Judge on his/her daily duties. The court clerk is usually the person you would go to if you have any questions.
Suspension: If you fail to answer your ticket, your license could get suspended. Please remember it is a crime to drive with a suspended license. If you are pulled over, the officer can arrest you and impound your car.
Junior License: If you possess a junior license (DJ) and are charged with a speeding violation, you should handle your case with great caution. You may have to appear in court regardless of your plea. New York State sets stringent guidelines for young drivers.
Ticket InformationNew York State police officers use a “Uniform Traffic Ticket”, which is also referred to as an “UTT.”
Your UTT can provide you with a lot of useful information. It provides you with instructions on how to enter your plea, the officer’s name, date and place of offense, description of violation, mph, vehicle description, and other such information.
Police agencies that have jurisdictional power to write a summons include the town/village police, local police, state police, park police, and the sheriff’s office; however it is not limited to just these agencies.
Fine InformationIf you are driving 76 mph on a 55 mph zone, this is a conviction of 6 points that can result in a fine up to $393.00 dollars payable to the court. Typically, a second fine will be imposed within 60 days of the conviction. This fine is a minimum of $300.00 and it is payable to the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is technically called the Driver's Responsibility Assessment. Finally, a conviction to a speeding ticket greater than 15 miles an hour can place an otherwise clean driver in a position to receive significant insurance increases. For some drivers, their insurance company may drop them as a client or raise the rates hundreds of dollars.
Please note, a conviction of a speeding ticket does not always convert to insurance increases. Two very similar situated drivers could have two different insurance increase outcomes. Insurance companies often look at other factors as well, such as type of vehicle, accident history, age of driver and many other factors.
