New York State has a traffic point system that can affect a motorist’s privilege to drive.In general, in any given 18 month period, a motorist is allowed up to 10 point to be deducted from their license before their privilege to drive is suspended.

If you are assessed points on your license, the points are not permanent. For the purposes of a suspension, points will stay on your license for an 18 month period from the date of issuance.
If you obtain a copy of your driving record, a conviction may be visible for more than 18 months even though the points are no longer being held against you.
